8/28/16 – Esper Force – Fun with Charizard

realredIts like a much more violent version of Pokemon, except we also punch one of the trainers.

Locked in a battle with the Fire Kami, and those who would want to claim his power, Esper Force apprehensively makes the choice, that it would be better to contain the Fire Kami than to let it roam free.

However a divine beast is not so easily captured, and there are always worse things out there that must be dealt with…

Characters:

Lenn – aka Japan Cable, Lenn comes from a demon-controlled future and brooks no nonsense.  Energy based powerset

Noriko – Analytical Genius, Noriko’s instrumental in the creation of power armor, ships, and the problem of the demon invasion, however her unscrupulous tendencies cause her to delve into territory best left alone.

Sakura – Child of Ameratsu, goddess of the Sun, Sakura bears the crushing weight of responsibility on her, having watched her friends die in her stead.

Yurika – Weak of flesh, strong of spirit, the powerful psychic Yurika has died seven times.  Now housed in a robot body, she is forced to adjust to a life akin to death.

Tori – A new recruit, Tori gained his demonically-infused powerset during the attack from Jigoku.  His family no longer recognizes him, leaving him feeling quite alone in the world…

8/14/16 – Esper Force – Super Psychic Robot!

RobotYurikaSuper psychic samurai Yurika, ready!  Esper Force ready?….FOR JAPAN!

The team of Esper Force, Japan’s only superhero team, again clash with each other as they consider their next course of action.  A new figure has entered the fray, seeking the power over life and land, and has chosen the elemental kami that roam Japan’s more wild regions.  Having struck down one effortlessly, Esper Force sees this figure align with the Southern Dragons, a foe previously fought in Season 1.

Yurika struggles to adapt to her new robotic form as well as the alienation from her father, the team’s loyalty rift grows wider.  Tori finds himself longing for a life before he gained demonic powers, and for those he had left behind.  It seems Esper Force has sacrificed much for Japan, and there’s always a need for more…

The Guides to the Megaverse(r)…Talk to Kevin Siembieda(r)!

We had a chance to meet up with Kev this year at Gencon 2016, and I got to ask him a few questions about whats up.  We didn’t have a lot of time, naturally, but we also managed a discussion where Carmen Bellaire snuck in and showed me a lot of models for a new game of his coming out in January.  Rogue Heroes, using the Rifts IP!

Here’s the discussion with Kevin…

The Guides to the Megaverse Play….Cataclysm

cataclysmI’d put a cat pun here, but they were already littered all through the rules.

CATaclysm, the beer and chips/pretzels RPG created by Akinji Entertainment, got my attention, so myself and Captain Dammit sat down for a test run.  Unfortunately, we only got skirmish rules due to the time, but we learned some of the games basics.

Overall, we felt that the game was simple enough, and we liked the concept, but felt there could be a little more crunch to it.  That, we were assured, was a definite possibility after it hits the ground.   Combat was simple, we had status bars instead of HP and naturally we had nine lives.

I’d like to see more items devoted just to Cat play overall, even the tongue-in-cheek qualities of it like ‘knocking something off a table for no reason’ or distracted by yarn.  However the game plays straight and simple.  Active defense is something I’ve always approved of, as a fan of Palladium, so I feel it has that going for it.   I feel CATaclysm is right on par (or maybe even slightly better than) with Nightlight, my current favorite rules-light child-friendly game!

The Guides to the Megaverse play…Bureaunauts

bureaunautsDaft Punk has finally become middle management

Bureaunauts is a new board game whose premise is easy to learn and hard to master.  Play one of a handful of space-venturing corporate drones seeking to climb the ladder up to Director!  Explore space, network, schmooze, plan a golf outing, and occasionally do a little bit of actual work when the space jellies mount up.

Captain Dammit and myself played a round of this at GenCon 2016 and give our thoughts on the game  brought to you from Fox and Ox Creations.  Who wouldn’t want to be a suited-up Daft Punk accountant?

8-7-16 – Esper Force! – Android 18..or perhaps 19.

yurika2Nobody truly dies if you have a necromancer or a mad scientist on the team!

Japan’s only superhero team has returned with a special guest.  Three years ago, a group of students in Hokkaido rallied together to help their great nation against a military coup, and helped stop a demonic invasion from Jigoku by forming a gestalt known as the Enlightened King Kai.  Tokyo was damaged in the attack, but it was at that time that Esper Force became public.  Their goal?  To honor their families and provide a better future…

FOR  JAPAN!

The team is currently attempting to forever close demon portals around the country, however the great guardians that protect these portals are extraordinarily deadly.  When the great seductress Jurai Guomo entrances one of their own, it was the frail psychic Yurika who paid the price, her body giving up mid-combat as she burned her very life essence to protect another.

Yurika – A psychic who started out the game dead, she manifested a new body.  Weak of flesh, strong of spirit, Yurika has died seven times.  Ever the righteous one, her friends jokingly call her ‘Captain Nippon’  (aka Captain Japan).

Tori – A new recruit, Tori gained his demonically-infused powerset during the attack from Jigoku.  His family no longer recognizes him, leaving him feeling quite alone in the world…

7/31/16 – Suicide Squad – Home Again

tess213672405_1342060419142281_1874856057_n

ONE of these two people ends up insane, place your bets!

The so-called Suicide Squad has returned to Century Station after what felt like a year of exile, (OOCly, it actually was.)  However, the reunion is not a happy one.  In the once-home mansion of the New Warriors (their team name), strangers are seen.  The Station is the most high tech area on the planet most likely, and that means that they could be surveilled anywhere.  The foursome have to consider their options, and decide whom they can trust nowadays.

Meanwhile, Reckless, still harboring a syringe of the Creator’s mutagen, breaks protocol to seek out his contact to find a cure for his horrid condition.  Desperate to change his situation, he finds himself in a situation where he can either risk death for salvation…or return to the drawing board.

Also a small cat-like bookwyrm gets involved, and there is much cuteness.
